Welcome to this week’s Social Media Marketing Monday. First up today we have an article from Scott Jensen on the art of combining your social media campaigns with your existing offline strategies. It illustrates the point that we often make that social media should complement your existing marketing strategies, not neccessarily replace them, even though social media marketing normally gives you much higher ROIs than conventional marketing.

With social media, you can discuss issues, and using offline marketing you can drive home those points w/ specific calls to action. Combined Marketing Strategy.

 Our takeaway:

“Review your current marketing activities, each of which performs a particular job, connecting you with your target audiences in various ways. Social media marketing can work alongside your traditional marketing practices to enhance them”.

One of our favourite reads, Social Media Today, had this top article on how to create a simple marketing plan for small businesses. It is totally in line with our philosophy of K.I.S.S. (Keep It Short, Simple).

Most of us built our businesses around our passion and in doing so enjoy our work every day. However, if you are in business to be successful, then you need to view marketing as an investment and take the proper steps to

Our takeaway was this list of ten simple, but important, reasons why you need a social media marketing plan, but remember to K.I.S.S.

“Whether you want to focus solely on inbound marketing or you want to integrate online with off-line marketing activities, there are 10 important reasons why your small business needs a realistic but simple marketing plan.

  1. To specify a vision for your business
  2. To solidify your mission
  3. To outline what you want to accomplish
  4. To describe your ideal client
  5. To articulate what makes you different
  6. To provide a road map for achieving your goals
  7. To help you focus on what is important
  8. To create an action plan for what you need to do and when
  9. To track your progress
  10. To remind you that this is your business and not a hobby”.

Finally this week, we have an interesting article from Niche Dominance which asks why you should use social media as part of your overall business branding in the first place.

Why Use Social Media Marketing? It is not to be trendy but rather to build your brand while achieving better search engine rankings. Find out how…

 Our takeaway was this:

“According to MediaPost, Social networks and blogs in the U.S reach nearly 80% of active U.S. Internet users and represent the majority of Americans’ time spent online”.

Bryant Park, late Apr 2009 - 21Given the ‘Yankification’ of Australia over the last couple of decades, we can project those figures onto Australia as well. Can you afford to ignore 80% of your customers? Bottom line is that you need to reach your customers where they are, and they are increasingly being found on social media, so you need to concentrate your efforts into social media marketing rather than traditional media like newspaper, magazine, radio and TV ads.

Until next week, enjoy your week!
